Ukraine Friendship Boxes - Can you Help?13 October 2023 (by admin) |
For a while now we have been working with the Sherwood Sunrisers, the local Rotary Club, getting involved in their annual Swimathons.
The Rotary Club are linked with the National Rotary Club who are working closely to support Rotary Clubs in Ukraine who in turn are helping schools, children and families.
Life for children in Ukraine continues to be excruciatingly hard with most of them learning online and living in constant fear.
Rotary Club are planning to make up some Friendship boxes which will be sent to Ukraine in time for St Nicholas Day on the 6th December. We are asking for donations for toys, games, picture books etc - these can be used but in good condition and preferably small. Children may also want to write notes to children in Ukraine which will be translated.
I am sure you agree that this will be a worthwhile although moving project for children to get involved in and we hope that you can support this. Items will need to be in school by Wednesday 18th October so that we can get them to the Rotary Club to box up. Here is a note from a member of the local Sherwood Sunriser Rotary Club... Thank you
'It would be wonderful if the children could get involved with the Friendship Boxes. They could start thinking about items they no longer play, that would be appreciated and used by other children. There is no need for parents to buy anything new and our Rotary Club will collect any donations and make sure they are passed on. Perhaps the children could make cards or write short personal messages to be included - they will be appreciated and understood if they are simple. They can also be translated.
December 6th, St Nicholas Day, is celebrated in the Ukraine and we are hoping to make sure that the Friendship Boxes get to the children for that day.
I hope we can achieve this jointly.'
Thank you
