Pupil Premium
What is it?
The pupil premium is funding allocated to schools for the specific purpose of boosting the attainment of pupils from low-income families. Funding is based on children registered for a free school meal (FSM) and children that have been looked after for more than six months.
The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for FSM and those that are not. Whilst schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit we are required to publish online information about how we have used the Premium.
How is the Pupil Premium used?
Our key objective in using the Pupil Premium Grant is to narrow the gap between pupil groups. As a school we want to ensure that pupils make good progress and, with the hard work of staff, excellent partnership work with parents and a determination to ensure that every child succeeds our objective will be met.
Through targeted interventions we are working to eliminate barriers to learning and progress. Many children start school with low attainment on entry and our aim is to ensure that they make accelerated progress in order to reach age related expectations and as they move through the school.
Targeted support is being provided throughout the school to meet the needs of a wide range of pupil abilities. These interventions support children in knowing where they are and what they need to do to improve their work.
Increasing Parental Engagement has been a key focus. We know that working with parents as the co-creators for children's education is one of the biggest influential factors in helping pupils to succeed, and this is an area we continue to develop.
